Is all thermally modified wood modified the same way?

No.  There are several different modification methods being used right now in the industry..  It is important to use wood that is modified using the process that is recognized by the Thermo Wood Association.

What is the Thermo Wood Association?

ThermoWood® is based on a patented thermal modification process developed through extensive research. Production is monitored through an audited quality control system, with regular inspections by independent third parties.

The ThermoWood® trademark guarantees that:

  • the production process follows defined technical criteria
  • raw materials originate from responsibly managed, certified forests
  • product properties are consistent and verified

This distinguishes genuine ThermoWood® from unverified or imitation thermally modified wood products.

Is Terra Therm recognized by the ThermoWood Association?

Yes. Glacier Millworks sources its thermally modified Nordic Spruce for the Terra Therm line from ThermoWood® approved manufacturers.

What are the benefits of thermal modification?
