Strength That Shows Its Grain
Fir was made to carry weight. It framed the mills, spanned the bridges and raised the timber structures that still stand a century on. Tight-grained and remarkably resilient, it brings quiet confidence and a rich tone that deepens beautifully with age.
At Glacier Millworks, Douglas Fir is the species we reach for when a project demands true architectural presence. Offered across our Timber Forge, Alpine and Revenant lines, each board is hand-selected and precision-milled in Montana’s Flathead Valley to reflect the craft and care that define our name.
Why Fir
- Built-in Strength. Fir ranks among the strongest softwoods available, with the density and hardness to hold up in the spaces people live in every day.
- True and Tight-Grained. Straight, close grain keeps fir stable and predictable, holding crisp profiles and clean sightlines across large installations.
- A Tone That Glows. Fir's warm, rosy hue carries light like few other woods, and its pronounced grain gives every finish depth and movement.
- Crafted for Precision. Fir mills cleanly and finishes smoothly, rewarding the hands that shape it from the first cut to the final board.
One Species. Three Distinct Looks.
Across three of our dedicated lines, fir becomes the canvas for higher craftsmanship. From the discipline of Shou Sugi Ban to hand-applied stains, every process reveals a new layer of its timeless grain.

Where Fir Belongs
From exterior siding, soffits and fascia to interior ceilings, wall paneling and architectural accents, fir brings warmth and structural confidence to residential and commercial projects alike. Choose from Shiplap, Tongue & Groove, Square Edge and Board-to-Board profiles, with textures ranging from Glacier Smooth to Rustic Brush. Our team can mill additional profiles on request.
Hand-Finished. Fully Backed.
Every board is finished in our own shop by craftspeople who have given years to the trade. Our factory-applied PPG ProLuxe® Solid Body exterior finishes are backed by a 15-year limited finish performance warranty, so the work we put in is work you can count on.
Richer With the Years
Time is kind to fir. Indoors, its tone mellows into a deep amber glow that makes a space feel settled and lived in. Outdoors, proper finishing and routine maintenance help preserve its natural beauty for years to come. Every year adds to the grain’s story.
Grown With Intention
We source our Douglas Fir from responsibly managed forests, keeping renewable timber at the heart of everything we build. Quality starts long before the mill, in forests cared for today and tomorrow.
